Hi, I’m Candi Mock and I’m running for Hermantown City Council

About Candi

Candi has a history of building community and connecting with diverse political views. In positions at the Willard Munger Inn in Duluth and at Cook, Minnesota municipality, Candi had early exposure to civic engagement.

Her priorities today echo values she’s practiced for decades: take time to listen to everyone, find value in other viewpoints, and dig deep to thoroughly understand the details.

Candi’s devotion to her community and family is unshakable and she’s no stranger to a challenge. Inspired by her proximity to a full infrastructure project in Cook, MN, Candi returned to school as a pregnant mother and completed a civil engineering technician degree.

As a single, working parent she continued to volunteer locally by delivering food, teaching youth, and contributing to events at her church and work. Candi is highly invested in Hermantown, having been a resident for over 15 years and put two children through Hermantown schools.

Today, as a proud union member and road designer for the state of Minnesota, Candi’s daily work centers around public safety. During Hermantown’s largest decision to date, she’s stepped up to put community first and restore public trust. As a Hermantown councilor Candi will continue to hear voices from all sides, rise to meet challenges, research the details thoroughly, and advocate for community members.

Why I’m Running:

“ I’m running because Hermantown deserves transparent and informed leaders who will put Hermantown residents and businesses first. ”

Priorities

  • Transparency

Hermantown deserves a government they can trust. As a former city staffer, I know that public decisions should be made in a transparent manner that prioritizes residents.

I've also seen how some in government avoid transparency. I will work to restore trust by building relationships with our community and keeping Hermantown city government accountable to its constituents.

  • Responsible Growth

Our city’s growth should be multifaceted and balanced with maintaining our current infrastructure, schools, and investments.

I have watched city projects succeed when residents are engaged and risk is carefully weighed. I will embrace opportunities for growth that protect our city from reckless risk.

  • Environmental Responsibility

Hermantown’s decisions affect our neighboring communities, future residents, and rural environment.

As a road designer for the state, I’m experienced with balancing these very factors while adhering to strict safety regulations. Regulations for hyperscale data centers are lacking. I support a moratorium while safeguards are developed.

  • Future Government

The Home Rule Charter commission currently being formed will serve as the city’s constitution and provide welcome change to the way the city functions.

My own life and career have seen significant transformations and I view change as an opportunity. I look forward to partnering with the charter commission and strengthening Hermantown’s future operations.
